A U.S. Postal Service employee and mother of two was fatally shot while on her delivery route in North Carolina, authorities confirmed. The tragic incident, occurring just months after her husband's death, has left her two young children orphaned.
Brandi Reynolds, a rural mail carrier, was killed on Friday shortly before 4:16 p.m. in Hayes, North Carolina, according to information released by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. Following the event, William Craig Durham was apprehended and faces charges of kidnapping and murder in connection with Reynolds' death.
Law enforcement officials discovered Reynolds deceased upon their arrival at the scene.
Investigation and Charges
Reports from The Wilkes Record indicate that Reynolds was actively delivering mail when the alleged shooting occurred. The Charlotte Observer further detailed that authorities, in an arrest report, accuse Durham of restraining Reynolds and moving her "from one place to another without the consent of the victim," which forms the basis for the kidnapping charge.
The precise relationship, if any, between Reynolds and Durham has not been disclosed by officials.
Profound Family Loss
This devastating loss compounds a recent tragedy for Reynolds' family. Her husband, Brent Reynolds, died in a car accident in December, only a few months before her own death. Their two children are now left without either parent.
Reynolds often shared her deep affection for her children on social media. In a February Facebook post, accompanying a photograph with her two kids, she wrote, "The reason I get up every morning. Love these babies. They are what makes life worth living."
She frequently posted images of her family. In another post about one of her children, Reynolds expressed, "I couldn’t deny this baby if I tried. Love her so much and man do i wish i could slow time down and keep her little forever."
