Federal Authorities Disrupt Major Gun Trafficking Network Supplying Chicago Gangs from Georgia

Federal authorities have successfully dismantled an alleged firearms trafficking network accused of transporting dozens of weapons from Georgia to Chicago street gangs. Prosecutors indicate that some of these illicitly moved firearms were later connected to a murder involving a juvenile and other violent offenses.

Five individuals have been formally charged in a 23-count federal indictment, which was unsealed this month in the Middle District of Georgia. This action follows an extensive investigation conducted by a Homeland Security Task Force, spearheaded by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Key Defendants and Serious Charges

According to prosecutors, Anthony Edmond and Rafael Enriquez are facing the most severe charges. These include conspiracy related to firearms trafficking, machineguns, and drug trafficking. If convicted, both individuals could face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Additionally, three other defendants are facing federal firearms conspiracy charges.

Court documents allege that Edmond is an active member of the Chicago-based Black Disciples gang and maintains associations with another Chicago street gang known as the Conservative Vice Lords.

The Alleged Trafficking Operation

Prosecutors contend that Edmond was directed by co-conspirators to perform straw purchases of firearms from various gun stores in Georgia. These weapons were subsequently transported and distributed to gang members operating within the Chicago area.

It is alleged that Edmond acquired dozens of firearms from Georgia gun retailers between 2020 and 2021, with at least 22 of these purchases occurring over a concentrated 10-month period. The indictment further claims that some of these firearms were illegally converted into fully automatic weapons and subsequently utilized in multiple violent crimes.

Beyond firearms, prosecutors also accuse Edmond of purchasing ammunition, extended magazines, and drum magazines. He is also alleged to have test-fired weapons before transferring them to their recipients. The indictment states that Edmond made multiple trips from Georgia to Illinois specifically to deliver these firearms to gang members in Chicago.

Weapons Recovered and Link to Violent Crime

Authorities have reported the recovery of 20 firearms allegedly purchased by Edmond across three states, with recoveries taking place between 2021 and 2026.

As detailed by prosecutors, the Chicago Police Department recovered a Glock pistol in 2021 from the bedroom of a known juvenile gang member. Subsequent forensic analysis conclusively linked this particular firearm to three distinct violent crimes.

Prosecutors specifically allege that the pistol was used in a 2021 murder in Chicago and later in the shooting of a rival gang member. Investigators determined that Edmond had purchased this specific firearm in Georgia just 36 days before it was allegedly used in the homicide.
