OnlyFans Model Seeks to Introduce Slain Boyfriend's Animal Cruelty Warrant in Self-Defense Murder Trial

Ahead of her upcoming murder trial, OnlyFans personality Courtney Clenney's legal team is seeking to introduce evidence that could challenge the prosecution's portrayal of her as the aggressor. Her attorneys have requested a Miami-Dade judge to allow the presentation of a past animal cruelty warrant against her deceased boyfriend, Christian Obumseli, particularly if prosecutors attempt to characterize him as nonviolent.

Animal Cruelty Allegations Surface

A July 1 court filing from Clenney's defense requested permission to reference an Austin arrest warrant issued for Obumseli in 2020. This evidence would be used should the state present Obumseli as "peaceful, gentle, passive, or nonviolent" during the trial, according to the defense.

The warrant, included with the defense's submission, accuses Obumseli of cruelty to a non-livestock animal, classified as a Class A misdemeanor, in Travis County, Texas. The alleged offense date is listed as November 2, 2020, though the document does not indicate the resolution of the case.

According to Clenney's attorneys, the documentation supporting the warrant details how apartment personnel discovered Obumseli's deceased dog, named Halo, confined within a kennel inside a closet of an abandoned apartment. Investigators reportedly found food but no water in the kennel, with feces surrounding the animal.

The defense motion asserts that a veterinary pathologist determined dehydration due to water deprivation was the most probable cause of the dog's death. Furthermore, investigators estimated Halo had been deceased for five to seven days prior to its discovery. The filing also alleges that Obumseli provided "vague, confusing, and conflicting" statements regarding the dog's demise.

Disputed Elevator Confrontation Video

This debate over the animal cruelty allegations is part of a larger pretrial struggle concerning how the tumultuous relationship between Clenney and Obumseli will be presented to jurors. Another key piece of contested evidence is a widely discussed elevator video, which prosecutors reportedly intend to use to characterize Clenney as the aggressor.

In a separate court document filed June 29, Clenney's attorneys contend that prosecutors are utilizing a selectively edited portion of a February 2022 elevator surveillance video. The prosecution, the defense states, claims the footage depicts Clenney repeatedly striking Obumseli, pulling his hair, and continuing to assault him until the elevator doors open, allowing him to exit.

However, the defense argues that the prosecution's video clip begins too late, omitting crucial preceding events.

Clenney's legal representatives assert that earlier segments of the footage show her entering the elevator from her residential floor in a state of partial undress, barefoot, and without personal items such as shoes, keys, a wallet, or a phone. Upon reaching the lobby, her foot was visibly bleeding, according to the filing.

The defense further states that Obumseli subsequently entered the elevator, observed blood on the floor, and proceeded to wipe it away with his foot.

When Clenney later re-entered the elevator, Obumseli followed her, the defense claims. Her attorneys contend that she repeatedly pressed elevator buttons, seemingly in an attempt to close the doors before he could gain entry.

Once inside the elevator, the filing alleges, Obumseli moved around Clenney, reached for the key-fob reader, and seemingly placed her in a headlock while attempting to activate the elevator and access their apartment.

Clenney's lawyers maintain she struck him during this altercation to prevent him from ascending to their residence. Prosecutors, however, have challenged her narrative, referencing the Miami-Dade medical examiner's findings that the fatal injury was inconsistent with her rendition of events.
