Boston Duck Boat Overturns Near Charles River, Injuring Six

An amphibious tour vehicle, commonly known as a duck boat, overturned Saturday in Boston near the entrance to a popular tourist attraction, causing injuries to at least six people and triggering a substantial emergency response.

The Cambridge Police Department confirmed that some of the injuries were minor, while two individuals sustained what were described as "more serious" injuries. Emergency officials from the Cambridge fire department also stated that everyone who was on board the vessel has been accounted for.

Multiple agencies, including troopers from the Massachusetts State Police and its Marine Unit, along with the Cambridge police and fire departments, quickly responded to the site of the incident.

Investigation Underway

The precise cause of the capsizing remains unclear. The vehicle involved is a replica of a World War II-era amphibious craft and is part of the fleet operated by Boston Duck Tours, a long-standing company in the city's tourism sector.

Boston Duck Tours has provided sightseeing excursions of Boston's significant historical and notable locations on both land and water for over 30 years. Given that the incident took place directly at the entry point to the Charles River, the Massachusetts State Police will be leading the official investigation.

In addition to their role in tourism, these unique duck boats have been a familiar sight in Boston's civic celebrations. They have been used on numerous occasions to parade the region's championship sports teams, including six times for the New England Patriots, four times for the Boston Red Sox, twice for the Boston Celtics, and for the Boston Bruins' victory in 2011.
