A woman's morning dog walk in a Canadian wooded area took a terrifying turn when she was stalked and charged by a large bear, an encounter she captured on video that has since circulated widely.
Terrifying Encounter Unfolds
Despite her repeated shouts of "No! Go away" and efforts to deter it with loud noises, the bear persistently followed her down the road. Initially moving slowly, the animal abruptly began to charge, circling her as she steadily retreated, continuing to yell for it to leave her and her dog alone.
For nearly two intense minutes, the bear repeatedly advanced and then pulled back, frequently rising onto its hind legs, revealing its considerable size.
Swift Thinking Leads to Escape
The woman ultimately managed to divert the bear's attention by tossing what appeared to be her water bottle behind a nearby gate. The footage concludes as she rapidly departs the scene, with the bear moving to investigate the thrown object.
The incident unfolded during what was intended to be a brief morning stroll with her dog. She had just picked up coffee and was near a camping site where she was staying with others. The bear emerged just as she was preparing to return to camp after securing her dog's leash.
According to Wilderness Escape Adventures in Alberta, which conducted an interview with the woman and shared details on social media, she maintained composure throughout the ordeal. Crucially, she avoided running from the bear until it had shifted its focus away from her.
Expert Guidance for Bear Safety
Wildlife experts consistently advise against running from a bear, as this action can trigger their predatory instincts. Bears are also significantly faster than humans, capable of reaching speeds up to 35 miles per hour.
