WWE personality Sami Zayn has frequently engaged with Johnny Gargano during recent episodes of "Friday Night SmackDown," often using him as a confidant for his various grievances.
Gargano, widely recognized by his moniker "Johnny Wrestling," has maintained a largely unresponsive posture in his on-screen appearances for several months. He has not spoken to other characters nor competed in a wrestling ring since the "Stand & Deliver" event in April. The only indication of Gargano's awareness within these segments typically occurs when Zayn directly addresses him.
Sami Zayn Reflects on Gargano's Potential
Zayn expressed his high regard for Gargano's abilities, stating, "I think he’s an immensely talented person. Anyone who’s followed his career, actually watched his work especially in NXT, knows what he’s capable of." He further suggested that some performers, upon reaching the main roster, do not always get the opportunity to fully exhibit their skills, and he believes Gargano fits this description.
"He’s almost in this sort of vegetative state or whatever and he just needs like the Prince Charming or whatever is to come around and swoop him and get him out of it. … I think something just needs the right spark to get him to remember who he is and I do think if, and when, that happens we’re gonna get to see a side of him that’s very exciting, that hasn’t been seen in a very long time."
Zayn's comments underscore a hope that Gargano will overcome his current storyline predicament and return to his acclaimed form.
A Champion's Dormancy and Fan Anticipation
Johnny Gargano is widely considered among the most skilled technical wrestlers on the current roster. His tenure in NXT is celebrated for producing some of the brand's most memorable matches. During his time there, he achieved significant success, capturing the NXT Championship, the NXT North American Championship, and the NXT Tag Team Championship, making him the first competitor to earn the NXT Triple Crown.
Since transitioning to the main WWE roster, Gargano has also held the WWE tag team championship on two separate occasions.
Despite his past accomplishments, many fans eagerly await his return to active competition, hoping he will emerge from this period of inactivity and once again showcase the wrestling prowess for which he is renowned.
