Myles Gaskin Announces NFL Retirement at 29 After Seven Seasons, Culminating in Super Bowl Victory

Myles Gaskin, a seasoned NFL running back, has declared his retirement from professional football at the age of 29. The announcement, made on social media Thursday, marks the end of a seven-season career that began as a seventh-round draft selection by the Miami Dolphins.

In a heartfelt message, Gaskin conveyed his deep appreciation for the sport.

Football…there will never be enough words to explain how I feel about you, so I won’t even try. What I will do is give all the game you gave me to the next generation of young players who dare to be great. Thank you. It’s been real.

Gaskin's final appearance in the league came with the Seattle Seahawks during their victorious 2025 Super Bowl campaign. Although he participated in only one game that season, he contributed on both offense, taking three snaps for a total of six yards on three carries, and on special teams, where he logged five snaps. The Seahawks' Super Bowl triumph took place in Santa Clara.

Collegiate Success and NFL Beginnings

A native of Lynnwood, Washington, Gaskin remained in his home state for college, starring in the backfield for the University of Washington. He made history in 2015 as the first true freshman running back for the Huskies to surpass 1,000 rushing yards, finishing the season with an impressive 1,302 yards on 227 carries.

The Miami Dolphins selected Gaskin as the 234th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons with the team, progressively climbing the depth chart to eventually secure a starting position. His most productive season occurred in 2021, where he gained 612 rushing yards on 173 carries, scoring three rushing touchdowns. He also showcased his receiving abilities, catching 49 passes for 234 yards and an additional four touchdowns. During his early years in Miami, Gaskin played a versatile role, adapting to the Dolphins' running back by committee approach.

Navigating the League

Following a one-year contract extension with the Dolphins in 2023, Gaskin was released before the start of the regular season, leading to a period of movement across several NFL franchises. He swiftly signed with the Minnesota Vikings, joining their practice squad before being elevated to the active roster, where he saw action on special teams in Week 2.

Later that same season, the Los Angeles Rams acquired Gaskin from the Vikings' practice squad. He played one game for the Rams in Week 8 before being waived shortly thereafter. His journey continued with a return to the Vikings, followed by stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024, the Baltimore Ravens in 2025, and finally, joining the Seattle Seahawks in October 2025, culminating in his Super Bowl ring.

Throughout his professional career, Myles Gaskin accumulated 1,360 rushing yards, along with 102 receptions for 712 yards, and a total of 13 touchdowns.
