Julianne Hough recently embraced the serene "la dolce vita" during a memorable trip to Sardinia, Italy. The 38-year-old co-host of "Dancing with the Stars" documented her adventurous girls' getaway, which included exhilarating cliff dives, exploring quaint local villages, unwinding on pristine beaches, and maintaining her fitness with seaside workouts.
Sardinian Adventures and Beachside Style
Hough shared several captivating images from her Italian escape. In one photograph, she exuded relaxation while lounging on a beach chair, dressed in a crisp white string bikini. The dancer reclined with one leg gently bent, posing near the water's edge. She complemented her swimwear with classic black sunglasses and a white mesh headscarf draped over her short blonde hair. The background of the image revealed a bustling shoreline filled with other beachgoers, while elegant yachts dotted the sparkling blue waters further offshore.
Reflecting on the experience, Hough expressed her sentiments on social media.
"Still thinking about Sardinia and how special it was to experience it with my girls @drewdylanlex and @briannacope," she wrote, adding, "There’s just something about seeing the world with people you love that makes everything feel a little more alive."
Another highlight of her trip featured a more tranquil scene overlooking the Sardinian coast, where Hough sported a dark string bikini. She was captured sitting gracefully on the edge of a lounge chair beneath a rustic, shaded canopy. A matching wrap was tied casually low around her waist. With her gaze directed towards the sea, the secluded setting offered breathtaking panoramic views of the rugged shoreline and the calm, expansive ocean.
Hough also shared her appreciation for the destination in another post:
"The beauty, the food, the wildness, the peace… already dreaming about going back to @resort_erica where should we go next and who’s coming?"
Balancing Ambition with Serenity
Beyond leisure, Hough dedicated time to her active lifestyle during the vacation. A separate image showed her practicing yoga on a wooden deck that offered an unobstructed view of the water, underscoring her commitment to wellness.
This particular photo was part of a more profound reflection Hough shared about the slower pace of life she encountered in Sardinia. She penned
"An ode to the nonnas of Sardinia… their sun kissed skin and the sense that they haven’t just spent their lives working but living."
The experience prompted Hough to re-evaluate her personal balance between professional ambition and personal enjoyment. She openly admitted,
"And boy, do I feel like the silly American in Europe. I love my work and my ambition, but when I’m older, I’d rather be the grandmother with stories to tell than wonder if I hustled more than I lived."
She concluded her thoughts with gratitude, stating,
"Grateful to @hotelcapodorso for reminding me to slow down, breathe the salty air, taste the wine, and watch those stories pass by over an espresso 🤍" and adding, "from spa to sea, grazie."
From Beachwear to Glamour and "Dancing with the Stars" Reflections
The trip wasn't exclusively about beachwear and introspection. Hough also embraced a more glamorous side, showcasing a stunning coral-pink gown. In one striking photograph, she posed in the strapless dress, which featured a fitted bodice and a voluminous skirt, while standing on a picturesque street adorned with ancient stone buildings and traditional terracotta roofs. Hough looked down as the elegant skirt billowed around her, accessorizing the ensemble with a bold gold necklace and delicate strappy heels.
This rejuvenating escape provided Hough with a much-needed respite before embarking on another demanding chapter with "Dancing with the Stars," a show she has been associated with for many years. Hough initially joined the popular competition series as a professional dancer in 2007 and has since taken on roles as a judge and, more recently, a co-host.
Earlier this year, she reflected on the remarkable endurance of the series, which first premiered in 2005.
"I mean, this show got turned down so many times at the beginning, because people were like, a ballroom dancing show? Like, what? Is that really a thing?" Hough shared in an interview in May.
More than two decades after its debut, Hough attributes the show's continued success to its unwavering commitment to its core values. She elaborated,
"To see that it's been around not only just, like, survived 20 years, but is now thriving more than it ever has, it just goes to show that, like, when you stay in authenticity and integrity of what this show is — which is craftsmanship, just rooting for people to grow and succeed, and go on the journey of transformation, and keep that family experience — that's timeless."
