Florida Middle School Teacher Faces Felony Charges After Alleged Inappropriate Communications with Former Student

A middle school teacher in Florida has been apprehended following an investigation into alleged inappropriate digital communications with a former teenage student. Authorities indicate the teacher admitted to engaging in these communications since 2023.

Christian Schneider, 31, who teaches at Memorial Middle School, was arrested on Friday. He faces three felony charges stemming from an investigation conducted by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

The criminal inquiry into Schneider commenced on July 28. Detectives discovered he had been sending inappropriate messages to a teenager who had previously been a student at Franklin Middle School, according to information released by the sheriff's office.

During questioning, Schneider reportedly informed deputies that his inappropriate communications with the student had been ongoing since 2023, as stated by authorities.

Specific details, such as the exact age of the student, how investigators initially became aware of the alleged exchanges, or the precise content of the messages, have not been disclosed by law enforcement officials.

Specific Charges Filed

Schneider is formally charged with two counts of solicitation or possession of child sexual abuse material, both classified as second-degree felonies, according to booking records from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Additionally, he faces one count of unlawful use of a two-way communications device, which is a third-degree felony. The official offense date for all three charges is listed as July 3.

Schneider was taken into custody shortly after noon on Friday and processed into jail later that afternoon. Each charge carried a $2,500 surety bond, resulting in a total bond amount of $7,500. Jail records indicate that Schneider was released on surety bond at 2:38 a.m. local time on Saturday.

Sheriff's Statement on Trust and Accountability

"Teachers hold a position of trust that comes with enormous responsibility," stated Sheriff Chad Chronister. "When that trust is exploited, it's not just a crime, it's a violation of everything our schools are supposed to stand for. Detectives will continue investigating these cases aggressively, and anyone who abuses their position with a child will be held accountable."

The sheriff's office identified Schneider as a teacher at Memorial Middle School and the teenager as a former student who attended Franklin Middle School. The agency has not provided further details regarding Schneider's specific connection to Franklin Middle School or the timeframe during which he taught the student in question.

Authorities confirmed that the investigation remains active, and additional information will be made public as it becomes available.
