The LIV Golf tour is currently hosting its New York-area tournament at former President Donald Trump’s National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. This marks the third occasion the emerging golf circuit has staged an event at one of the former president's properties.
As he has done at previous LIV Golf tournaments, former President Trump was present to observe the proceedings. Reports indicate he was met with a significant ovation from spectators as he navigated the course in a golf cart.
Enthusiastic Reception for Former President
The reaction to former President Trump at various public and sporting events often varies depending on the context. While his appearances at UFC fights or college football games typically elicit strong positive responses, professional basketball playoff games have sometimes seen a mixed reception.
Given the setting at his own golf club, a welcoming reception from the attendees was largely anticipated.
LIV Golf's Evolving Financial Landscape
The former president's attendance at this weekend's event holds notable significance for LIV Golf, which is currently undergoing a period of substantial change and strategic development. Earlier this year, questions arose regarding the tour's long-term viability following an April announcement from the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) that it would cease funding the tour.
This development was particularly critical, as the PIF had been LIV Golf's sole financial backer.
However, LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil recently provided an update on the tour's financial outlook. He confirmed this week that the organization has successfully secured an agreement with a new, undisclosed lead investor.
"LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League’s next era, driven by and for the players," O'Neil stated.
