Dolly Parton Misses Dollywood Roller Coaster Launch Due to Persistent Health Concerns

Dolly Parton, the celebrated country music star, was absent from a significant event at her Dollywood theme park on Friday. Medical advice from her physician in Nashville necessitated her staying put due to continuing health challenges.

The 80-year-old artist, known for hits like "9 to 5," was scheduled to be present for the grand opening of Dollywood's latest attraction, the NightFlight Expedition roller coaster, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. However, she participated in the festivities remotely after her doctor cautioned her against traveling.

During a video address at the event, Parton conveyed her apologies to the assembled crowd. "I’m still in Nashville, and I’m sorry about that," she stated, as captured in footage shared by the Knoxville News Sentinel.

She elaborated on her health status, noting, "I’m supposed to be there in person, like we planned. Now I’ve told you before, all my fans, that I have had a few little health issues. And sometimes I get a little dizzy, and I get dehydrated."

Appearing on screen adorned with fairy wings, Parton continued, "And I’m dehydrated. And, so, my Nashville doctor clipped my wings, saying, 'You ain’t traveling this week.’"

She humorously acknowledged the situation, saying, "So, I guess if your doctor tells you, ‘You ain’t traveling this week,’ you ain’t traveling this week." Parton also emphasized her commitment to keeping her fans informed, having promised to share updates "on everything."

Ongoing Health Challenges

Parton's current absence is part of an ongoing period of recovery from various health concerns that have led her to scale back certain professional commitments.

In May, the iconic performer announced the cancellation of her planned Las Vegas residency. This engagement had already been postponed once, moving from 2025 to September 2026, also due to health-related issues.

In a video message released at that time, Parton provided an update. "I'm here to give you an update on a few things going on in my life," she began. "First, it is concerning my health. And I have some good news and a little bad news. But the good news is, I'm responding really well to meds and treatments, and I'm improving every day."

Regarding the less favorable news, Parton admitted she wasn't yet physically prepared to meet her own high standards for stage performance.

She explained that some medications and treatments were causing her to feel "a little bit swimmy-headed, as my grandma used to say," adding, "And, of course, I can't be dizzy, carrying around banjos, guitars and such on five-inch heels ... not to mention all those heavy rhinestone outfits, the big hair, my big personality."

Focus on Recovery and Fan Connection

Parton has previously disclosed health issues such as kidney stones, noting that her immune and digestive systems had been "out of whack" and were undergoing treatment. She has consistently reassured the public about her progress.

Concluding her message, she expressed gratitude and optimism: "I have great doctors, and I'm doing really well, and they assure me that everything I have is treatable. So, I'm going with that, and I just want you to know I thank you for standing by me and that I will always love you."
